I enjoyed reading your article very much and I would say that I agree with all your points. The market prices are the reflections of the reality, the supply and demand, especially with internet connecting global buys and sellers. But only very few watches enjoy such status, the majority of watches are not good "investment".
I have not bought any watches above retail prices - I just have more patience I guess. Furthermore, to some watch lovers including myself, hunting for a hot watch at retail price is part of the fun of this hobby. The hobby is about relationships, among watch enthusiasts, with the watchmakers and brands, and with the dealers. The watches are just objects, but the common love for the watches connect us together.
